“Hi, I’m Allison, feel free to contact me to talk more about how I can help you.”
Our Work Together
As your therapist, I provide a comfortable and confidential office, as well as years of training and experience, to support you in creating the life you want. The first step in our work together is setting up a 20-minute phone consultation. This gives you a chance to ask me any questions you have and for me to learn more about your current needs.
In our first session, we will identify and explore the changes you want to make in your life and make a plan on how to get there. Our work together will involve weekly sessions where we explore your emotions, relationship dynamics and whatever is most present for you. This process leads to self-awareness, which is the foundation for making positive changes in your life.
About Me
As a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, I have spent the last several years working with a diverse population of clients to develop my skills as an effective and caring therapist. My areas of specialty include working with adolescents, parents and couples.
In order to meet the needs of my clients, I have had extensive training in areas of trauma, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, parenting and child development. Through my work with children, teens and parents, I have provided support for significant life changes, including death and divorce.
Through my compassionate, genuine, and accepting approach, you will feel understood, supported, and empowered to create the lives and relationships you want.
My Education, Experience and Approach
I graduated with my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from California State University and have spent the last few years working in a variety of non-profit and school-based settings. The experience and insight I have gained working with Jewish Family and Children's Service of Long Beach, Southern California Counseling Center, Fairfax High School, and Kara (a nonprofit grief support organization) has significantly shaped and informed the work I do.
Overall, my therapeutic approach is founded in psychodynamic theory, which means that I believe our past experiences and relationships influence our strengths, struggles, and personal relationships today. Exploring this in our work together results in an increased understanding of yourself, this leads to healing, positive shifts in relationship dynamics and more fulfillment.
In my work with couples, I incorporate an Emotionally Focused Therapy approach, which many studies have shown to be the most effective form of couples therapy. Our focus is on enhancing communication, connection, and intimacy in your relationship.
For family therapy, the focus is on understanding and supporting the family as an emotional unit. I work with all members to enhance communication, create balance, and strengthen relationships between family members.
